"It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either..."
The subject line was Josh's quote after speaking to Drs. Edwards and Openshaw of Massey University yesterday. After 15 minutes of difficulty trying to dial internationally and finally getting through, it seems that the main thing Josh took away from the 45 minute conversation is that he (Josh) says "sort of" a lot. Other notes from the conversation: the professors are on board to assist his research, they will recommend Josh as an Honorary Research Scholar after some paperwork (CV, letter of intent, letter from Josh's advisor in the U.S-Dr. Ritter) is received, and they even asked about me and the type of work I am interested in. Without being overly optimistic, Dr. Edwards said it was likely I could find employment with the university (hope!).
Additional progress has been made on the insurance front. Insurance is required by both Rotary and Massey University for international students. The Studentsafe Insurance offered through Massey is extremely comprehensive and affordable at approximately $240.00 USD/year. The insurance not only covers medical expenses (quite extensive coverage) but also travel insurance and some personal effects. As an added bonus, I can receive the same insurance Josh receives at the same rate as part of Studentsafe's Family Plan.
