Final Days Before the Move...

If the winds of change started as a light breeze at the beginning of our move from Arkansas to New Zealand, they certainly ended up being hurricane force winds by the end of it all. My last day of work was on Friday, January 19. Silly me, I scheduled a time to meet with my Springdale seniors that morning thinking I could type up the report in the afternoon. That did not happen.

What did happen was I ended up having a very busy day. After the Springdale meetings, I went to lunch with my co-workers at Mexico Viejo. My stomach started hurting just as I sat down so my last Viejo dude meal was not enjoyable. Add the fact that I had a lot of work to wrap up so I didn't want to stay long (but we stayed until 1:30) and I was already behind schedule. Top that with cake in the kitchen at 2:00 and I was going to be staying late on my last night.I took files off my computer and tried to clean out the last of everything. I had a meeting with my boss around 3:15 too. The day was not long enough to do what I had to do. Then, all my office mates came in with a top ten list of memories about me. Really nice but I had work to do. Elizabeth left early and said her good byes but I told her I would be back around and this was not our real good bye. A trip to the key office took place around 4:15. Around 5 till 5, Aimee came in to help clear out the last of my things. I told her that this would not be the real good bye either since it was so stressful.

I was finished (but had to leave anyway to get to Aunt Linda's) at 6:15. Made it out there by 6:35 and had a spaghetti dinner with Grandma, Gary, Linda, Tim and Mom. Called Josh and he wondered why I hadn't called him all day Saturday morning, (wonder why). Trin was in Fayetteville to help us move out the furniture. However, Josh and I had spoke the night before about not moving out the king size bed until later (not Friday).

When I came back from Linda's to an empty home, I just wanted to lay on my bed and cry. But...the bed was gone! I couldn't even cry on my bed, I had to lay on the floor and cry instead. What a day. The guys had taken a lot of the big furniture to storage, however, Josh and I would have to take the entertainment center, futon, and table and chairs ourselves. Josh's mom, dad, and grandma came to stay on Saturday and Trin went home. We went out to eat and rented some movies. We watched The Devil Wears Prada and it was very slumber partyish to lay on the floor with blankets and pillows while the three grown ups sat on the futon. The following morning, we went to Denny's for breakfast before saying good bye to everyone. Josh's mom cried.

On our own again to wrap everything up with the move and oh yeah, Josh defended his dissertation the next day.Monday morning came, Josh defended his dissertation at 9 am. I asked him if I should go with him but good thing I didn't as no one else in the public showed up and it would have been weird to be like, hi, I'm Josh's wife, while he defended.

Josh spent all day at school making the minor revisions since he PASSED and became DR. BARNETT! Josh was late getting home so we could go out to dinner with my dad and his family at Red Lobster (typical). I had decorated the house but he would not see that until after dinner. Onto Red Lobster where we ran into Dean Greenwood and his wife and they congratulated us on the Rotary scholarship and Josh's becoming a doctor. The entire family came out with dad: Yadi, Matt and Rachel. We had a good dinner and got some going away/Christmas present from my grandma. We used the $40 gift card to pay for our part of dinner. Matt and Rachel got to pet two lobsters which was cool.

Tuesday night we went out to Buffalo Wild Wings to meet up with Josh's co-workers for dinner. This was after moving the last of the big stuff into storage...I wasn't much help with the heavy lifting going downstairs but once at the storage unit we managed to make the last of the big stuff fit. Pretty much, the only things still in the house were the tv, dvd player, and futon cushion with bedding.Wednesday, I finished up packing the last bit of stuff (according to Josh I hadn't done a lot but really I did) while Josh finished up his dissertation changes and printed the dissertation off.

We had my mom over for BBQ pizza (eaten on the floor while watching American Idol), then we started cleaning the apartment. It was looking good. Since we hadn't made it back to the storage unit to drop off one last load of things, I drove to my mom's house at 10:45 to have her keep those things. Back to the apartment by 11:45, I did some last minute cleaning while Josh fell asleep sitting upright watching The Illusionist. I was in bed by 2 am.
